A very fine Rococo-Louis XV chimneypiece, made out of the highly valued Brèche Violet marble. The double moulded shelf is resting above a finely carved and panelled frieze, centred with a beautiful cartouche, flanked by foliate scrolwork with trailing flowers. This motif is echoed on the scrolling endblocks ànd canted console jambs. French, ca.1860. Brèche Violet marble, a stunning natural stone characterised by its striking violet and soft hoovering grey and white veining. It was highly prized in the 18th and 19th century. This distinctive marble brought opulence, luxury and elegance to interior-spaces and architectural elements.
