Joseph Le Guluche (1849–1915). Terracotta Sculpture, Statue Of A Young Woman With A Mandolin.

A charming statue depicting a young woman sitting on a low wall, holding a mandolin in her hands.
This lovely sculpture is made of terracotta with a waxed patina and bears the signature of Joseph Le Guluche engraved on the side of the low wall.
Note a tiny, barely visible chip on one of the frets on the mandolin’s neck (see photo 12 ).
Joseph Le Guluche was born on September 20, 1849, in Plourivo in the Côtes-d’Armor department of Brittany and died on January 24, 1915, in Villejuif in the Paris region.
He primarily produced popular subjects in terracotta. He was employed between 1879 and 1911 at the L’Isle-Adam pottery. He would become one of the most remarkable and one of the most prolific sculptors.
A collection of his works is housed at the Louis Senlecq Museum of Art and History in L’Isle-Adam.
