Carved wood, formerly gilded, featuring openwork decoration of scrolling foliage and veined acanthus leaves. The composition is organized around large, opposing scrolls; a cherub's head emerges from the foliage at the center. The vigor of the carving, the relief, and the play of light and shadow created by the openwork sections evoke the Italian Baroque style of the second half of the 17th century. The gilding is a later addition with extensive restoration, showing signs of wear and touch-ups; the cherub's neck has been restored. Overall dimensions: 43.7 × 33.7 × 6.3 cm.
