This document is a copy issued by the Versailles chancellery of a royal act.
It concerns the appointment in 1759 of Jean-Claude Jaquet de la Douai or de la Douay (Lons-le-Saunier, 1737 - Paris, 1794).
He obtains here a dispensation from the king to succeed his father in the position of honorary private lieutenant in the bailliage of Lons-le-Saunier (from 1759 to 1772).

Jaquet was in turn a jurist, policeman, pamphleteer, smuggler and French spy.
Following this post in Lons-le-Saunier, he worked for Louis XVI's minister, Maurepas. Renownedfor his diplomatic acumen, in 1777 he was responsible for the arrest of Comte de Mirabeau in The Hague. During the war against England, as a double agent, he trafficked in pamphletspamphlets (acquired with public funds and published under false names). Regularly imprisoned in 1781 and 1783, he was released in July 1789. In the years that followed, he took part in anti-revolutionary political intrigues, serving as a spy in Koblenz for General Schroeder (House of Habsburg). Imprisoned during the trial of Anisson-Dupéron (creator of assignats), he was condemned by the Revolutionary Tribunal for conspiracy and corruption of public officials, and guillotined in April 1794.
