Registration Letters for Surgery Students in Montpellier – 1767
A rare 18th-century official document titled “Enrollment Certificates for Students of Surgery in Montpellier,” dated March 1, 1767, during the reign of Louis XV.
This printed document, completed in pen, certifies a student’s admission to the College of Surgeons of Montpellier after completing courses in anatomy and surgery and passing the required examinations.
It features several handwritten signatures as well as a large red wax seal preserved in its metal case, suspended by a blue ribbon.
The document is adorned with an elegant typographic border and the royal coat of arms of France at the top.
Mounted under glass in a gilded wooden frame.
Condition: The document shows signs of age, including creases, stains, tears, and several areas where the paper is missing. The frame also shows signs of wear, scuffing, and areas where the gilding is missing.
An interesting historical record of the teaching of medicine and surgery in Montpellier in the 18th century.
