Elegant Regency-style console table from the Napoleon III period, crafted from exotic wood veneers and floral marquetry, richly adorned with chiseled and gilded bronze.

Its undulating band features flowering branches in shades of blond and amber that stand out against dark wood panels. These panels are surrounded by warm-toned veneers and gilded bronze frames that highlight their contours. In the center, a feminine mascaron is set within a border of volutes and foliage.

The console rests on four curved legs, adorned at their bases with gilded bronze espagnolettes depicting female busts. The contrasting veneers follow the curves of the base, while the bronze trim extends down to the feet, which are decorated with foliage motifs.

The legs are joined by a scrolled crossbar, inlaid with a latticework pattern punctuated by small flowers and edged in gilded bronze. It echoes the sinuous lines of the belt and balances the piece’s silhouette.

A breccia marble top in shades of pink, brown, and cream crowns the piece. Its molded edge follows the contours of the console table and complements the tones of the wood.

This console has a matching piece whose marquetry features the same motifs but with an inverted arrangement of light and dark woods. On this particular piece, the luminous flowers stand out against a dark background, giving the design a particularly striking contrast. This interplay of positive and negative space evokes the principle of part and counterpart, here expressed through wood marquetry.
