Italian School, Carrara Workshop, Late 19th–early 20th Century.
Based on Antonio Canova
A significant sculpture depicting Psyche Awakened by Cupid's Kiss, inspired by the famous model created by Antonio Canova. This work delicately illustrates the moment when Cupid revives Psyche from her enchanted sleep, in a composition imbued with grace and sensuality.
The group, finely carved in alabaster, captivates with the quality of its execution, the softness of its modeling, and the elegance of its lines. Cupid’s outstretched wings harmoniously frame the two entwined figures, while the rendering of the drapery and hair demonstrates remarkable craftsmanship.
Resting on an oval base of white Carrara marble, this sculpture is composed of several elements. The wings, which are removable, can be detached to facilitate transport and ensure complete safety.
