A circular snuffbox made of tortoiseshell, decorated with a radial spiral design consisting of grooved gadroons in relief framing a central bronze medallion depicting a bust in profile in the neoclassical style.
The figure depicted may be Francis I Stephen of Lorraine (1708–1765), Holy Roman Emperor and husband of Maria Theresa of Austria. He is depicted wearing a uniform, his head crowned with a laurel wreath in the classical style. The medallion is surrounded by a circumferential inscription and a frieze in the form of a laurel garland.
The piece shows slight wear on the bronze reliefs as well as minor irregularities along the edge of the lid.
