Rare Directoire Clock

A rare clock in gilded bronze and patinated bronze depicting Josephine (Napoleon I’s first wife), based on a design by Jean-Simon Deverberie (1764–1824).
The white enamel dial is signed “Arnauld” in Nancy.
Directoire period; a French piece dating from around 1795.
Jean-Simon Deverberie was among the most important Parisian bronze casters of the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
He was a designer, a bronze manufacturer, and an extremely prosperous merchant and haberdasher, well known for his “Pendule au Sauvage” and “Pendule l’Afrique” series.
Our clock is of extraordinary quality and is in very good original condition (uncleaned and unrestored); the movement needs to be cleaned by a clockmaker.
