Copy After Aivazovsky—the Russian Fleet In The Bay Of Sevastopol—large Decorative Painting
Large decorative painting based on a work by Ivan Aivazovsky (1817–1900), based on the composition of “The Russian Fleet in the Harbor of Sevastopol ” (1846), the original of which is housed at the Russian Museum in Saint Petersburg.
It depicts a squadron of sailing ships anchored in the harbor, a paddlewheel steamboat, a city spreading out across the hillside, and a round tower in the foreground. On the shore, a group of figures waves to the ships, while a rowboat crosses the bay.
The golden light, the reflections on the calm water, and the cloudy sky create a luminous and serene atmosphere.
This is a decorative copy, not an original work by the master. It is signed “R. ALAN” in the lower right corner and set in a large gilded frame with a fluted profile, featuring a frieze of carved foliage around the perimeter.
