Bib 2—oil On Cardboard—signed—françois Corbellini—the Pier At Ajaccio—corsica—1955
Oil on canvas mounted on cardboard by François Corbellini, depicting a view from the Ajaccio pier.
Through this luminous and delicate composition, Corbellini captures the atmosphere of the port of Ajaccio and the gentle beauty of Corsica’s Mediterranean landscapes. The sea, the buildings along the shore, and the play of light reflect the artist’s keen attention to the island’s atmospheric variations.
The painter’s initials appear in the lower right corner of the composition.
Through his watercolors and illustrations, François Corbellini was one of the ambassadors of the burgeoning tourism industry in Corsica. The Corsican landscapes were a constant source of inspiration and made him one of the leading figures of the Ajaccio School in the early 20th century.
A student at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Corbellini was trained by Jean-Léon Gérôme and Gustave Moreau, whose teachings had a lasting influence on his approach to color and light.
