Description

A French bar cabinet featuring a balanced design, in which the black glass contrasts with the warm tones of the wood and the brass accents. Its rectangular silhouette rests on four slender legs, whose curvature lends a sense of fluidity to a structure with sharply defined lines. This balance between geometry and movement contributes to its distinctive character.

The front, sides, and top are clad in glass panels adorned with a design combining glossy surfaces, matte sections, and gold accents. Two fantastical fish with coiled bodies, reminiscent of stylized dolphins, occupy the center of the lid and the tabletop. Arranged symmetrically above a cartouche, they are set within a scalloped frame. The sides each feature this motif individually, while the lower panel of the front features a foliage design.

Fine fillets outline the contours of the panels, punctuated by circular brass fasteners. The top lifts up and the front flap opens to reveal the storage space. The interior of the flap is lined with a mirror, creating a display surface when opened.

Technique and Materials

The wooden frame is clad in thick black glass with beveled edges. The deeply engraved design creates a contrast between the frosted areas and the reflective surfaces, accentuated by gold accents. The exposed fasteners, the handle, and the metal hinges provide understated accents to the piece. The decorative treatment of both the top and the sides allows the piece to be appreciated from multiple angles.
