Louis Jullien-Rousset (1859–1921) was a French Orientalist painter who traveled through North Africa at the turn of the 20th century. His watercolors, executed with great finesse, poetically capture the landscapes, architecture, and atmospheres of the cities of the Maghreb, in the tradition of the great French Orientalists.

This watercolor on paper, inscribed with a location and dated 1911, depicts a view of Tangier from a Moorish arcade. A veiled figure sits in the foreground, while the white city and its minarets stretch out on the horizon beneath a milky sky. The slight patina on the aged paper attests to the work’s age and authenticity. Presented in an antique frame.
