An elegant bronze sculpture depicting a young woman dressed in Oriental style, holding a fan and flanked by a column adorned with Egyptian-inspired motifs. The piece rests on a stepped architectural base.

The finesse of the modeling, the rendering of the drapery, and the decorative nature of the composition are characteristic of the work of Eutrope Bouret, a French sculptor active during the second half of the 19th century.

Born in Paris in 1833, Eutrope Bouret was a student of Louis Buhot and began exhibiting at the Salon in 1875, where he regularly presented his works until 1903. He worked in bronze, marble, terracotta, and plaster and was particularly appreciated for his female figures and genre subjects. He received an honorable mention at the 1885 Salon.

His works are represented in public collections, notably *La Liseuse* at the Musée de Meaux. He also created the bronze bust of the writer Alexis Bouvier, intended for his grave at Père-Lachaise.
