Provenance

Travel suitcase by Fendi, Zucca Monogram Hard Suitcase model, made in Italy. It has a label inside marked “FENDI ROMA – MADE IN ITALY.” This piece is part of the Italian house’s luggage collection and combines the traditional construction of a hard-shell suitcase with its signature monogram design.

Description

Rectangular in shape, the suitcase features a structured body and a flat lid. Its exterior displays the Zucca pattern, composed of double Fs arranged in a regular geometric grid, in shades of brown and beige. Dark brown leather trim frames the surfaces and accentuates the overall lines, while light-colored stitching provides a subtle contrast.

The front features a leather carrying handle, two side locks, and a central clasp. Gold-toned metal hardware adds texture to the design, complemented by corner protectors and exposed rivets. A key with a keyring and a luggage tag are included.

The interior, lined with a light-colored fabric, includes a main compartment equipped with two leather straps with buckles to secure personal items. The underside of the lid features large gathered pockets. Metal side zippers facilitate opening.

Technique and Materials

Rigid construction covered in Zucca-patterned canvas, with leather trim, handle, and straps. The assembly combines visible stitching, rivets, and metal fasteners and protective elements. The textile lining contrasts with the exterior design and provides a clear view of the interior layout. Perimeter reinforcements protect the areas most exposed during transport.

1980s. The combination of the repeated monogram, dark leather, and gold-tone trim reflects the aesthetic of luxury luggage from that decade, while retaining the classic shape of a hard-shell suitcase.

Condition

Very good overall condition, with a very well-preserved exterior canvas. Signs of use and scuffing are present on the leather trim; the lining shows a few localized marks. The gold-tone finishes retain a beautiful luster, despite slight signs of use. These marks are a testament to its history and contribute to its vintage character. The piece retains its straps, key, and hanging accessories.

Use and Purpose

Designed for travel and clothing storage, this suitcase also serves as a decorative piece for a walk-in closet, bedroom, or living room. Its size allows it to combine practical storage with decorative appeal within a collection of vintage luggage.
