18th-century French School: Flora And Zephyr, Cupids; Allegory Of Spring Rt1493

A beautifully framed oil on canvas, likely a former overdoor panel or trumeau panel depicting Flora and Zephyr surrounded by Cupids.

At the center of the composition is a ravishing young woman—this is Flora, goddess of flowers and spring.
The young winged man on the right is Zephyr, god of the west wind—often described as a gentle breeze heralding the return of spring—depicted with butterfly wings and as Flora’s husband. To seal their love, Zephyr offers her a magnificent garden, the power to bring spring and to make all the flowers on earth bloom.
The children are Cupids, symbols of fertility
