This beautiful painting is an interesting reworking in reverse of the 1749 painting by François Boucher, which is in the Columbus Museum of Art (Ohio, USA). Pomona was the beautiful fruit nymph with whom Vertumnus, the god of gardens, had fallen in love. Unable to seduce her, he decided to disguise himself as an old woman in order to approach her and extol the benefits of marriage, but Pomona, remaining indifferent to his speech, Vertumnus decided to show herself in her true form and from then on she fell in love with him.
