Ludwig Julius Heymann Globe - Berlin - 10 Cm - Circa 1880
Globe by Ludwig Julius HEYMANN – Berlin – circa 1880. The globe still bears its original cartouche inscribed with ‘Erd-Globus, Berlin, Ludw.Jul. Heymann’ and retains its richly detailed printed geographical surface. The sphere, which is particularly light, is crafted using a traditional technique, with cartographic strips printed on paper and applied to a papier-mâché structure. It rests on a remarkable wooden base. A compass is fitted into the wooden base. The map surface shows clearly visible signs of age-related wear, including scuffs, scratches, marks, discolouration and a few surface losses, all consistent with its age and long period of use. This authentic patina lends it a great deal of character whilst still revealing a remarkable amount of geographical detail. Dimensions: Height: 20 cm Globe diameter: Ø 10 cm Base diameter: Ø 6.5 cm
