Swiss Folk Art Plug Tobacco Cutter, 19th Century, Attractively Carved.

A fine tobacco-related object. It consists of a sturdy rectangular base made from a light-coloured hardwood, free from woodworm damage, possibly boxwood or a similar dense timber. One end is rounded. The 2.6 cm thick edge is entirely hand-carved with a continuous wolf-tooth pattern. The rounded end bears the initials S.X., framed by two finely engraved rosettes. It supports a steel chopping blade stamped Enzler, Appenzell, indicating its Swiss origin. Appenzell is one of Switzerland's most mountainous cantons.
