Chinese Black-lacquered Cabinet, 19th Century
Important Chinese cabinet in black lacquer, richly decorated with scenes of figures, landscapes, and plant motifs, rendered in polychrome and accented with gilding.
The cabinet opens at the front with four stacked drawers as well as two doors in the lower section. The numerous compartments provide storage space particularly well-suited for small precious objects, jewelry, accessories, or personal effects.
The upper section opens with a hinged lid, revealing an interior fully lined with an elegant red-and-gold floral fabric. The interior features several compartments for storing and organizing small objects.
The front and sides are adorned with Chinese scenes depicting figures in traditional costumes set against landscapes, embellished with plant motifs and gilded details. The numerous gilded brass fittings add a beautiful decorative richness to the piece as a whole.
The cabinet rests on a low base with small, curved legs. The quality and richness of its decoration make it a particularly decorative piece, typical of the European taste for Chinese art objects in the 19th century.
An elegant 19th-century Chinese export cabinet, ideal for a collector’s home and suitable for storing jewelry, small precious objects, or personal belongings.
