Indochinese Wardrobe, Late 19th - Early 20th Century
This richly carved four-doored wardrobe depicts mythical scenes and scenes of daily life, all embellished with auspicious symbols (peach blossoms, ruyi, etc.). The panels, stained red or black and enhanced with gilding that has aged beautifully, are finely openwork in the upper part of the doors. The central doors are fitted with two ornate and chased metal handles. The piece, in very good condition, testifies to the strong European taste for Asian art during the Belle Époque.
