Antique Double-sided Carved Sycamore Gingerbread Mould, Probably Dutch, Dated 1887
An unusual antique double-sided gingerbread mould, carved from sycamore, probably Dutch, and dated 1887.
Each side is deeply carved with a full-length figure in traditional costume: a gentleman wearing a plumed hat and carrying a sword on one side, and a lady in an elaborately decorated long dress and distinctive headdress on the other.
The mould bears the carved initials “CHVH” and the date 1887. It retains a rich, naturally developed patina.
There are numerous old woodworm holes, clearly visible in the photographs. The woodworm is no longer active and has long since died.
