Louis XVI Bed in Carved and Painted Wood – 19th Century
A very beautiful Louis XVI-style bed in carved and painted wood, dating from the 19th century.
It features a substantial, rounded headboard upholstered in an elegant fabric with a floral pattern. The frame is richly carved in the Louis XVI style: fluting, rosettes, foliage, and acanthus leaves.
The posts at the foot of the bed are particularly intricately carved with foliage motifs and finished with elegant knobs. The waistband is punctuated by vertical fluting and carved rosette-shaped blocks.
The original gilded paintwork features a lovely patina and period-appropriate wear, lending the piece a great deal of character.
