Regency-period Alcove Cabinet, 18th Century (xviii)

Regency-period alcove clock signed by Gosselin for Jean Philippe Gosselin, who was certified as a master clockmaker in Paris in 1717 and died in 1766.
Straight cabinet in tortoiseshell veneer with a rocaille-style four-legged base, bronze leaf motifs, and a gendarme’s cap. The top is crowned with an Imperial-style dome topped by a rooster. 
Solid gilded bronze dial with enameled cartouches featuring Roman numerals and the name of the clockmaker, Gosselin. Two putti support the dial, which features the attributes of love—a quiver and a winged torch—in the center.
The movement is also signed by Gosselin. On-demand striking mechanism with three gongs (one for striking the full hours and two others for announcing the quarters). 
Condition: the lamp base is missing; original verge escapement but modified to a leaf spring suspension; movement in perfect working order; beveled glass is not original
