Restoration Period Clock Minerve Athena Gilt Bronze XIX 19eme Siecle
Restoration-period gilt bronze table clock depicting Minerva in glory, circa 1820-1830.
Minerva in arms wears the aegis, a goatskin on which the goddess fixed the Gorgon's head offered by Perseus. An oil lamp, perched on the bollard, symbolizes wisdom, and a cornucopia is leaning against it.
The base is decorated with medallions of Minerva and Ceres in a wreath of laurel and wheat ears, accompanied by a trophy of the Arts.
This Minerva shows similarities in its pose to the Athena Parthenos. The Parthenon is depicted below the dial.
Condition: wear to the gilding on the base, small lack at the base of the spear, movement appears functional and clean (oscillating balance fork) but missing balance wheel, stamp present.
