Kendi Porcelain, Blue And White Chinese, China, Asia, Ming Dynasty, Wanli Period
A porcelain kendi decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with a Chinese dignitary and his entourage. The kendi's general shape is recognizable by its globular body. A narrow spout extends from the shoulder at mid-height. A very slender neck then terminates in wider lips for filling the china with water. This kendi is in good overall condition, although it likely originated from a shipwreck. Small inclusions and deposits remain. This porcelain also bears a marking number, possibly an inventory number (28). This type of blue and white porcelain was sought after by Europeans and imported from Southeast Asia by the East India Company. Ming Dynasty, Wanli Period (1573-1620)
