Louis XVI-era wall sconce, known as an “alcove” sconce, in gilded bronze, signed Charles le Roy in Paris

Small-sized model with a base decorated with acanthus leaves and friezes of pilasters, the shoulder adorned with laurel festoons, and the base featuring an interlaced pattern and an antique-style urn

Mechanism with on-demand striking activated by a pull cord. Full hour striking on a first hammer and quarter-hour striking on a second hammer. 

Charles le Roy (1709–1771) was admitted as a master clockmaker in 1733 and resided on Rue Saint-Denis between 1748 and 1769.
