18th-century French School Of Portraiture

18th-century French School pastel portrait of Anne-Charlotte de Lorraine, Mademoiselle de Brionne.
Round pastel, 32.5 cm.
Louis XVI-style frame
46x38 cm.

This is a classic, idealized depiction of Mademoiselle Anne Charlotte de Lorraine as a child; she has delicate features and wears her powdered hair swept up in the fashion of the day, adorned with a blue ribbon that matches her attire.
She delicately holds a woven basket filled with plums.
This type of tender, luminous portrait is characteristic of the 18th-century French Rococo style, heavily influenced by the work of masters such as François-Hubert Drouais.

The artwork is enhanced by a gilded Louis XVI-style frame featuring a beaded frieze along the inner edge, which accentuates the portrait's charm and beauty.

She appears again, slightly older, as Diana in a portrait painted by Vigée Lebrun.
