Charlotte-Jeanne Béraud de La Haie de Riou, Marquise deMontesson (Paris, October 4, 1738 - Paris, February 5, 1806) was mistress of Louis-Philippe d'Orléans(Philippe Égalité's father), but secretly married him in 1773 withauthorization of Louis XV.
She was also a renowned woman of letters, famous for herfor her literary salon and her talent as a playwright. She survived theTerror and eventually became a figure in the Consulate, and was a close friend ofclose friend of Joséphine de Beauharnais, future empress and wife of NapoléonBonaparte.
