Pair Of 18th-century Pastels
Artist: Henry
A rare and beautiful pair of 18th-century pastels depicting a couple, signed “Henry” and dated 1792 (in the lower right corner of the pastel of the woman)
They are painted on paper, in an oval format with spandrels, protected by glass and original period frames made of stuccoed and gilded wood.
For the pastel of the man, the glass is original with its characteristic minor imperfections.
For the woman’s portrait, the glass is more recent; the frame has been restored (very skillfully, in fact) while retaining the original frame.
We know that these are:
Gracie SOUDAN (1756 – 1816)
and
Raymond VALZ (1742 – 1818 )
husband and wife, and on the back of the woman’s frame, we find a record of all their descendants up to the present day.
These two portraits come directly from the descendants of these two individuals. Of Burgundian origin
In very good condition
18th century.
A rare and moving testament.
