Interior Architectural View, In The Style Of Fleury Richard, 19th-century European School

European School, 19th century, in the manner of Fleury Richard (1777–1852), oil on canvas laid down on cardboard, depicting an architectural interior, 42 × 53 cm.

The composition presents a vaulted passage inspired by Gothic or Renaissance architecture, executed with precise perspective and a sensibility characteristic of French Romantic painting. Beneath a ribbed vault, a suspended lantern casts a gentle light that reveals subtle variations of stone and shadow. To the left, a monumental staircase adorned with polychrome panels leads toward an unseen space, while a carved angel figure above the main arch enhances the spiritual and contemplative atmosphere of the scene.

The quiet mood, the meticulous attention to architectural detail, and the restrained palette recall the intimate interiors favoured by Fleury Richard, a leading figure of the Lyon Romantic school. A small area of retouching is visible within the shaded zone of the vaulted passage, without affecting the overall reading of the work.

Modern giltwood frame with foliate and scroll decoration.Dimensions: 31× 42cm (excluding frame).Canvas laid down on cardboard, stable surface.

This painting, marked by technical finesse and a delicate sense of atmosphere, reflects the 19th‑century taste for architectural subjects imbued with mystery and silence, in the tradition of Fleury Richard and his contemporaries.
