Small Rocaille Wall Console In Gilded Wood, Louis XV Period, 17th Century

A charming little wall-mounted console table made of carved and gilded wood, dating from the first half of the 18th century, circa 1735–1750.

With a deliberately asymmetrical composition, it features remarkable Rococo ornamentation combining powerful volutes, curves and counter-curves, deeply carved foliage, and a large, open shell at the top.

The carving, particularly dynamic and lively, is organized around a large central scroll extended by a cascade of openwork foliage. The piece as a whole offers a highly decorative silhouette, characteristic of the flourishing Rocaille style at the beginning of Louis XV’s reign.

The upper section, with its scalloped and molded edges, forms a shelf and retains a black-painted background that creates an elegant contrast with the original gilding.

This small console table has retained its beautiful decorative presence as well as a pleasant patina of age.

It can accommodate a small bronze, a statuette, a porcelain piece, or any other precious object.

Original condition with wear and touch-ups to the gilding, cracks, small chips, and visible imperfections, particularly at the ends and in certain carved areas. These features are clearly visible in the photographs and attest to the object’s age.

Period: first half of the 18th century, late Regency–early Louis XV period, circa

1735–1750.
