Silver Milk Jug, Augsburg, 1803

Artist: Georg Friedrich Gericht

Silver, 13 loths fine, hammered, fluted, cast, and chiseled; fruit tree.

Dimensions: 14 × 15 × 6.1 cm

Weight: 295 g

Hallmarked with the silversmith’s initials and the Augsburg city hallmark depicting a pine cone (Pyr), accompanied by the letter O — a hallmark form attested for the year 1803.

Cylindrical milk jug, framed by two profiled ring moldings. The body is entirely decorated with parallel vertical gadroons and closed by a hinged lid. The lid, plain and domed, has a slight raised edge and is topped by a tapered knob.

The spout, which is not very high, is adorned with a stylized palmette. The smooth, S-shaped wooden handle is attached to the body by two silver sockets.
