Antique George Fox Sterling Silver Zodiac Indianesque 3 Piece Teaset London 1886
Antique George Fox Sterling Silver ‘Zodiac’ / Indianesque Bachelor Tea Service – London, 1868
A rare and highly decorative Victorian sterling silver bachelor tea service by the noted London silversmith George Fox, comprising a finely chased milk jug and matching twin-handled sugar bowl, both richly ornamented in the sought-after “Zodiac” or Indianesque pattern.
Each piece is extensively hand-chased with exotic animals, scrolling foliage, and intricate Eastern-inspired motifs set within shaped panels. The quality of the chasing is exceptional, displaying deep relief and crisp detail typical of Fox’s best decorative work.
The sugar bowl is of elegant rounded form with two flowing handles, while the cream jug features a shaped pouring lip and a graceful C-scroll handle. The set forms part of an original three-piece bachelor tea service.
Both pieces retain their full London hallmarks, including:
• Lion passant (sterling standard)
• Leopard’s head (London assay office)
• Date letter for 1868
• Queen Victoria duty mark
• Maker’s mark G.F (George Fox)
