Amber Overlay Glass Perfume Bottle—floral Design—perthshire Paperweights, Scotland, 20th Century
Overlay glass perfume bottle crafted by Perthshire Paperweights, a Scottish manufacturer based in Crieff, Perthshire.
The bottle features a spherical body made of thick glass, crafted using the technique known as “overlay.”
This technique involves covering translucent glass with a thin layer of colored glass; cutting and polishing certain areas then cut through this colored layer, revealing the colorless glass beneath.
Here, the transparent amber overlay contrasts with the numerous light-colored, “slightly ovalized” circular facets distributed across the bottle’s body.
Inside the bottle, at the bottom, is a single blue and green floral motif.
Depending on the viewing angle, this flower is reflected through several facets, creating the illusion of multiplying inside the bottle, even though it is a single design.
At the center of this flower is a “P” , the signature of the Perthshire factory.
The spherical stopper features the same amber overlay and faceting. Its upper part is also decorated with a colorful flower.
