Small Paris Porcelain Cup By P-l Dagoty, Coral-red Shell Design, Empire Style, 19th Century

Small Parisian porcelain cup shaped like a beautiful golden seashell; the handle and base of this cup are designed to resemble a branch of red coral encircling the shell, with the signature of the famous porcelain maker PL Dagoty* on the bottom, dating from the First Empire period, circa 1810, early 19th century.

This cup is in good condition. Very fine quality; it is a thoroughly charming piece due to its small size and original shape.

Pierre-Louis Dagoty (1771–1840) was a French porcelain painter. The production of the Dagoty manufactory is characterized by elegant forms, the use of color, and great richness. Empress Joséphine bestowed the highest honor upon the company by granting it the coveted title of “Manufactory of Her Majesty the Empress.” In 1798, Pierre-Louis Dagoty took over a small porcelain workshop and specialized in fine porcelain painting. Very quickly, the manufactory’s products gained widespread renown. In 1810, Pierre-Louis went into partnership with a porcelain maker who owned a factory on Rue de Chevreuse, François Maurice Honoré. After the fall of the First Empire, the company took the name “Manufacture of H.R.H. the Duchess of Angoulême. P.L. Dagoty” (from 1815 to 1820). After 1820, Dagoty continued production independently, with his own workshops in Paris.
