Pair Of 18th-century Regency-style 2-light Wall Sconces In Gilded Bronze With A Crowned "c" Motif
Pairof Regency wall sconces with two lights, made of finely chased gilded bronze; thewall bracket features a flowing design and is topped with a bouquet of flowers, while the twolight arms swirl in the shape of leafy branches; hallmarks C Crowned*, 18th-century.
These wall sconces are in good condition and are of superb quality. They were hallmarked with the Crowned C in several places in the mid-18th century. Holes were drilled in them at a later date for electrical wiring.
Please note: very minor dents, a few scratches, and signs of age; see photos.
*The Crowned CDesigned under Louis XV to serve as a tax hallmark, the crowned C has also become, for collectors, a mark of quality and date: it appears to have been engraved only on the most refined bronzes. This is indeed an inspection hallmark (not a manufacturing hallmark), so it is sometimes found on earlier objects (from the Louis XIV period, for example) onto which it was engraved at a later date.
