Note: minimal wear consistent with age (see photos). * Yves Hélory de Kermartin, also known as Yves de Tréguier, Erwan Helouri in Breton, or Saint Yves in the Catholic tradition, was a priest and official of the Diocese of Tréguier, born probably around 1253 at the Kermartin manor in Minihy, in the Duchy of Brittany, and died there on May 19, 1303. Considered by the Catholic Church to have dedicated his life to justice and the poor, he was canonized on May 19, 1347, by Pope Clement VI. Saint Yves is the patron saint of all legal professions, particularly that of lawyer. He is also the patron saint of Brittany and is honored with a grand pardon (pilgrimage) on the Feast of Saint Yves every year in Tréguier. He is generally depicted with a purse in one hand, signifying all the money he gave to the poor during his life, and a parchment in the other, recalling his role as an ecclesiastical judge. He is also often shown between a rich man and a poor man. Height: 24.2 cm Base: 9.4 cm x 9 cm Reference: 500 931 All photos are available at: www.antiques-delaval.com
