These clubs offered their male members a space for social interaction, complete with discussion rooms, banquet halls, and smoking rooms, as suggested by the cigars and pipes visible in the image.

The gathering: A large group of men dressed in formal Victorian-era or late 19th-century attire (frock coats, vests, bow ties) is seated around a long banquet table.
