Gloria Swanson (born March 27, 1899, in Chicago—died April 4, 1983, in New York) was an American film actress and producer. She made her return to the big screen after retirement with *Sunset Boulevard* (Billy Wilder, released in 1950), a film in which she played Norma Desmond and which was a huge success: it was nominated for eleven Oscars (winning three), etc. Note the handwritten dedication to “John” and the signature below it. ·
