A descendant of an illustrious dynasty of Parisian casters, engravers, and gilders, Pierre-Maximilien Delafontaine (1777–1860) was a student of the famous painter Jacques-Louis David. A history painter and accomplished draftsman, he exhibited at the Paris Salon as early as 1798. His graphic works are distinguished by their documentary precision.
