LANDSCAPE Original pencil drawing by Karl GIRARDET (1813-1871) Painter of history, portraits, genre scene, landscape. A pupil of Léon Coignet at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, Karl Girardet was one of the favorite painters of Louis Philippe who sent him to Egypt in the company of his brother Edouard and appointed him official painter of court ceremonies. He also visited Italy and Spain. After the fall of the monarchy, he left Paris and came to settle in Brienz. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1836. He produced many sketches which were published in the Picturesque Magazine, in Le Tour du Monde and in various Reference Bénézit magazines. It is exhibited in many museums: Algiers, Amsterdam, Bern, Chantilly, Nantes, Lille, Rouen, Strasbourg, Versailles... *** Mounted on cardboard, Mounting dimensions included 18 x 24 cm Signed lower right of the stamp in dry, dated 1855 Old drawing with foxing - See photo
