"Martin Hubrecht (1892-1965) - Oil On Masonite - View Of St Malo"
Martin Hubrecht (1892-1965) - Oil on hardboard - View of St. Malo. Oil on hardboard depicting a view of Saint-Malo, specifically the Rue du Boyer. Signed lower right. Dating from 1958. Martin Hubrecht (full name: Charles Marie Martin Hubrecht) was a French painter known for his watercolors and oil paintings. Initially, his works were in a rather restrained realist style. Then, at the end of the 1920s, he underwent a transformation: he adopted what has been called "Hubrechtian" painting—a kind of "rationalized Impressionism." His canvases include urban views (cities, streets, bridges), landscapes, but also scenes that were sometimes socially engaged—he depicted the working class and everyday life, often imbued with realism and a certain critical perspective on society. He travelled extensively in Brittany, Alsace and the Marne. Visible at the Galerie Courcelles Antiquités, 97 rue de Courcelles, in the 17th arrondissement of Paris.
