Louis Peyrat (1911–1999). View Of Collonges-la-rouge In Corrèze (19). Saint Pierre Church

Artist: Louis Peyrat ( 1911-1999)
A beautiful oil-on-canvas painting depicting a view of Collonges-la-Rouge, a charming little village in Corrèze (19).
More specifically, this painting shows a rear view of the Church of Saint-Pierre, originally dating from the 11th and 12th centuries and fortified in the 16th century, which still bears traces of its defensive architecture.
Collonges-la-Rouge takes its name from the red sandstone construction that makes it so distinctive.
This village has been designated one of the “Most Beautiful Villages of France” and is listed on the inventory of historic monuments.
This painting was created by Louis Peyrat (1911–1999).
Louis Peyrat, a French painter, was born on November 30, 1911, in La Gorceix, Saint-Germain-les-Belles, near Limoges.
He completed an apprenticeship in carpentry while simultaneously studying by correspondence at the École Universelle; after passing its entrance exam, he worked at an architectural firm in Limoges.
In his free time, he attended the School of Decorative Arts in Limoges; then, beginning in 1934, he devoted himself to painting.
In 1948, he exhibited at the Magadoux Gallery in Limoges, then in Royan and at numerous other galleries.
Beginning in 1958, he painted views of Paris—particularly of Montmartre—which brought him success.
He gained admission to the highly renowned Cercle Volney and to Parisian galleries such as the Roussard Gallery.
His paintings were exhibited alongside those of Degas, Domergue, Buffet, Braque, Picasso, Foujita, Utrillo, Laurencin, and others...until 1969, the year in which he stopped painting due to complications resulting from a traffic accident he had suffered a few years earlier (1963).
His success allowed him to live comfortably until his death on March 13, 1999, at Le Martoulet in Saint-Germain-Les-Belles.
