Erevan Caucasus Rug, 110 X 86 Cm
Caucasian wool rug, cotton warp and weft, circa 1970–80. Very good overall condition, with a few spots where wool is missing from the selvedge (see photos). A sturdy and durable rug.
Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, was founded in 782 B.C. The city serves as a hub for Yerevan rugs as well as rugs produced in the surrounding villages.
Great care was taken in the crafting of this Yerevan rug, featuring two medallions surrounded by small motifs on a beige-gray background. Three stylized “herati” (flower) borders frame the rug’s field.
