J. Sanson (1833–1910), Bronze Sculpture "the Dancer With The Tambourine"

Artist: Justin-chrysostome Sanson (1833-1910)
Large bronze sculpture with a brown patina depicting a dancer with a tambourine (often identified as a faun, a satyr, or an ancient dancer). This is an iconic work by the French sculptor Justin Sanson (1833–1910).
Description of the work: A carefree young man, depicted in a dynamic dance pose (in contrapposto), with his left foot raised on its tip. He holds a tambourine with both hands above his left shoulder.
Clothing and attributes: He is girded at the waist with a draped pezonium, lined with a meticulously carved lion’s skin, whose roaring head appears on his right thigh.
Sculptor: Justin-Chrysostome Sanson (1833–1910), a renowned French sculptor and winner of the Grand Prix de Rome in 1861.
Signature: The bronze bears the signature engraved on the pedestal: “J. Sanson” followed by the inscription “ROMA,” indicating that it is a work created during his academic stay at the Villa Medici in Rome (second half of the 19th century).
Patina and base: Bronze with a dark, highly nuanced patina (brown/black).
