Bronze Medallion Depicting King Henry Iv
A bronze medallion with a beautiful patina, depicting in relief the portrait of King Henry IV. The sovereign is shown in bust form, with his characteristic wavy hair and sporting the famous upturned mustache and pointed beard that are among the most recognizable features of his iconography. He is shown wearing richly ornamented armor and the cross of the Order of the Holy Spirit around his neck, while a cloak falls elegantly over his shoulder. A hanging ring, located at the top, allowed this decorative piece to be displayed on a wall. This type of medallion, inspired by official portraits of French sovereigns, reflects the historicist taste of the late 19th century, a period during which the great figures of French history experienced a resurgence of interest in the decorative arts.
