Modern School
Sculptures depicting two GROUPS OF FIGURES—choristers and musicians arranged in pairs—made of chamotte clay and glazed with marbled drips of light green and brown on a beige background, representing choristers and musicians.
Dimensions of each sculpture: approximately 33 x 47 cm
Dated “nail signature”: (19)84 / M.L

This signature could not be identified.
Minor, invisible restoration of damage to the trumpet of one of the musicians.
The glazed chamotte clay lends a rich, almost organic texture. This is a powerful decorative work—expressive, if not “expressionist”—that showcases genuine interest in material and volume,

Condition:
A chip on the rim of one of the musicians’ cornets—indicated by a red arrow in one of the photos—has been restored, as shown in the main photograph. This minor restoration is virtually invisible.
