Oval, Gilded Silver Reliquary With A Radiating Design Set With Garnet-red Gemstones
A reliquary dedicated to Blessed (Bti) Jean Gabriel Perboyre, a Lazarist who died a martyr in China by strangulation in 1840. It is set in a composition of 425/1000 silver, gilded, featuring a radiating lace design set with red glass stones. On the back, the seal and its mounting are intact. Jean Gabriel Perboyre was proclaimed Blessed—the final step before beatification—in 1889 by Pope Leo XIII; we can therefore be certain that this reliquary dates from the late 19th century.
