Regional Display Cabinet Made Of Carved Walnut, With Floral Decoration—19th Century

An elegant regional display cabinet made of molded and carved walnut, crafted in the 19th century in the 18th-century style.

Narrow and slender in shape, it opens at the front with a large, four-pane glass door, surmounted by a scalloped transom. The lower section features a drawer that is also carved.

The piece is crowned by a large, ornate cornice, known as a “gendarme’s hat.” The upper crossbar features rich carved decoration consisting of a basket of flowers surrounded by branches and small blossoms. This same naturalistic motif is found on the side panels, the drawer, and the lower crossbar, which is adorned with a central bouquet.

The rounded front side panels extend down to curved legs that end in scrollwork. The door retains a beautiful, finely cut brass keyhole.

The interior, lined with a sea-green fabric featuring a moiré pattern, is fitted with three scalloped shelves for displaying porcelain, collectibles, or glassware.

The back, made of softwood panels, along with the photographs of the interior, allow one to appreciate the traditional construction of the piece.
